Edwin Vincent Filas

His legacy . . . Edwin Vincent Filas, age 88, of Norvell Township, passed away July 1, 2016, at home under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Caring Hospice. He was born in Detroit April 9, 1928, the son of Vincent and Mary (Lubas) Filas. Edwin married Caroline Angeline Baumgardt Aug. 31, 1948, in Detroit and she preceded him in death.  He was employed as a firefighter and retired with the command of battalion chief. Edwin enjoyed spending his free time gardening, water skiing, traveling and watching movies with his pooch buddy “Pepper” accompanying him most of the time.

His family . . . Edwin is survived by his sons, Kenneth and Darryl Filas of Brooklyn; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  In addition to his beloved wife, Edwin was preceded in death by his son, Michael.

His farewell . . . Edwin’s family will greet friends Wednesday July 6, 2016, at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Braun Chapel, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. On Thursday the family will gather at 10 a.m. until the time of mass at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church with Father Dan Wheeler as celebrant. In Edwin’s honor, memorial donations may be shared with St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church and Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
