Leroy “Roy” Halliwill, age 97, of Addison, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Canton Center, Mich., to Emery and Abbey (Hipsley) Halliwill.  He married Marjorie F. Grosteffon July 28, 1939, in Napoleon, Ohio, and she preceded him in death July 28, 1967.  Roy graduated from Addison High School in 1936. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1942-1946. He attended Texas A&M Veterinarian School for two years.  Roy farmed all his life and he also worked for Tecumseh Products for 42 years, retiring in 1981.  He played for the Toledo Mud Hens for one year. He was a former member of the Cement City V.F.W. and the Farm Bureau. Roy loved his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved raising cattle.

Surviving is one daughter, Lois Gamble of Jerome; four sons, Frank Halliwill of Onsted, and his friend Betsy Dennis of Addison, Harold (Audrey) Halliwill of Lyons, Ohio, Terry (Debbie) Halliwill of Guntersville, Ala., Larry Halliwill of Addison; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Louise Ehlinger of Addison; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and longtime friend, James Kisner. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie; one son, Richard Halliwill; one great-great-grandson; four brothers; four sisters; one son-in-law; and one daughter-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor Kim Repp officiating. Burial will take place in Hillside Cemetery in Addison. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Full military honors will be performed by the Fulton County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee.
