John E. Sheneman

John E. Sheneman, age 87 years, of Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, surrounded by love and family during his journey to meet our Lord at University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville while traveling home from Florida. He was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Lansing, the son of John L. and Bernadine R. (Devereaux) Sheneman. John was raised in Burt Township and worked on the family farm until he proudly served in the United States Army in Alaska after World War II.

John worked as a truck driver for Time-DC Inc., and at one time owned The Onsted Bar and Quarter Deck Motel in Mackinaw City. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a charter member of the Irish Hills Eagles #3689 in Brooklyn and the Sons of the American Revolution. He was the most loving and friendliest man anyone came across and loved to hug everyone. He always had a story to tell about when he was a boy. Surviving are five children, Linda Lee (Norman) Jewell of Westland, John Sheneman and Brian Sheneman both of Topinabee, Dr. Joseph Sheneman and Dr. James (Michele) Sheneman all of Brooklyn; 13 grandchildren, Brenda (Matthew) Ozog, Ashley Jewell, Denay Sheneman, Koaleen (Kenny) Jones, Adrianna Sheneman, Jared Sheneman, Michelle Sheneman, Kevin Sheneman, Abigail Sheneman, Lauren Sheneman, Sophia Sheneman, Isabella Sheneman and Santiago Sheneman; 13 great-grandchildren, Courtney Ozog, Tiffany Ozog, Anthony Ozog, Tristen Chenault, Ethan Chenault, Dontae Matthews, Trinity Jones, Alexis Kyle, Kaley Kyle, Jenna Kyle, Cloe Ingle, Serenity Hazelton and Tacey Sheneman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathleen Sheneman; grandson, Brian Sheneman Jr.; brother, Thomas Sheneman; and sister, Mary Reynolds.

Mass of christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church in Brooklyn with the Rev. Bob Pienta officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Shrine Cemetery in Brooklyn with full military honors conducted by Durkee-Seager Post #550 American Legion of Onsted. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted with an Eagle Lodge service at 6 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
