Duane Snider

Duane Snider was born Dec. 18, 1942, to Roy and Evelyn Snider. He passed away May 18, 2016, at University Hospital in Ann Arbor. He graduated from Cement City High School. His lifelong enjoyment of sports and cars began in his youth leading him to play many different sports and race stock cars as a young man.

Duane worked for Clark Equipment in Jackson for 20 years until the plant’s closing. He continued working at General Motors Powertrain for more than 20 years, mostly in the Toledo plant, until his retirement.

He met his true love and future wife, Wendy (Harbaugh) Snider, in 1976. Together they raised six children, Timothy (Sandy) Snider, Michael (Renee) Jeppesen, Karen (Kenneth) Carpenter, David (Terri) Snider, Rhonda (Sean) Washington, and Tamra (Jeff) Ripley. He also had a special place in his heart for his 18 grandchildren; his brother, Doug (Faye) Snider; and a host of nephews and nieces. Duane is a man difficult to put into words and he liked it that way. He was a layer cake with no frosting on the outside, his richness hidden just below the surface, only hinted at through his sly smile. He was happiest when he was fixing things although he would never say it out loud. His genius was in getting things working again and he spent his free time buying, repairing, painting, and breathing new life into cars and the many treasures that would appear in his garage. An avid golfer, he enjoyed the company of his friends on local courses as often as he could. Euchre, landscaping, NASCAR, caring for his grandchildren and the occasional vacation with his wife kept Duane busy throughout his retirement.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Tina; and his brother, Donald. Arrangements are being made by Arthur-Day Funeral Home in Michigan Center (www.arthur-day.com). There will be a celebration of life held at a future date.
