Cathy Lee Nichols

Her legacy . . . Cathy Lee Nichols, age 64, of Brooklyn, journeyed to heaven to meet her Lord Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. Cathy passed at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 6, 1952, in Jackson the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Jones) Shortz. Cathy was a caregiver all of her life, looking out for family and friends. She retired from Allegiance Health after more than 30 years of caring for patients. Cathy’s love, devotion and compassion for others will be forever remembered by those who knew her.

Her family . . . In addition to her loving husband, Lyle, Cathy is survived by nieces, Beverly Shortz, Robin Smith, Shelia Shortz and Sharon Carnes; one nephew, David (Joanne) Shortz; one brother, Carl (Kelly) Short; brother and sister-in-law, Mary Riddle, Ron (Carol) Nichols; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Justin Shortz.

Her farewell . . . Cathy’s family will greet friends Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Brooklyn, from 3 to 8 p.m. Cathy’s community farewell will be Saturday Jan. 21, 2017, beginning with gathering at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.  In Cathy’s honor, memorial donations may be shared with the American Lung Association.
