Marie Evelyn Rufner

Her legacy . . . Marie Evelyn Rufner, age 96, of Brooklyn, formerly of St. James City, Pine Island, Fla., passed away Jan. 31, 2016, at Arbor Manor Rehabilitation. She was born June 15, 1919, in Hicksville, Ohio, the daughter of Otto E. and Ethel (Stone) Hefty. Marie married Austin Josiah “Joe” Rufner Sept. 4, 1936, in Auburn, Ind., and he preceded her in death in 2004. She was employed as an inspector in a factory and was the owner/operator of Marie’s Hook & Needle. Marie’s true love was her family. She had a great sense of humor. Marie had two homes, one in Georgia and one in Michigan where she split her time.

Her family . . . Marie is survived by her daughters, Joan (Don) Lee, Patricia (Mel) Wahl and Marjory (Jack) Boley; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances Virden. In addition to her loving husband, Marie was preceded in death by her siblings, Doris Bloomberg, Derril and Robert Hefty.

Her farewell . . . Marie’s family greeted family and friends Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Lee officiating. In Marie’s honor, memorial donations may be shared with Arbor Manor.
