Jean Gwendolyn Jahn

Jean Gwendolyn Jahn, 94, of Hillsdale, formerly of Devils Lake, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021, at Drew’s Place of Hillsdale assisted living. She was born on January 9, 1927, in Detroit, Mich., to John F. and Gwendolyn A. (Goldsmith) Bell. Jean married Donald F. Haskell and then she married Warren A. John. She lived in Hillsdale, Jackson, Devils Lake, Vineyard Lake-Brooklyn area throughout her life and the past two years in Hillsdale.

Jean graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1945. She was a member of the Devils Lake Yacht Club, the Onsted American Legion Auxiliary, the Brooklyn Moose Lodge and the Brooklyn Eagles. She loved shopping, “Happy Hour” at the bar and loved ballroom dancing.  Jean enjoyed wintering in Stuart, Fla., and the river cabin in Luzerne, Mich., with friends and family. Jean always had an open door, a cold beer, a “good ear”, a warm smile, and always eager to meet new friends and listen to their stories. Dearly loved and admired by all. Our family treasure will surely be missed for generations.

Surviving are three sons, Donald Haskell and his significant other, Pamela Bailey of Vineyard Lake; two sons, Douglas (Kathy) Haskell of Manitou Beach, and William (Resa) Haskell of Arvada, Colo.; one daughter, Lisa (John) McLaughlin of Devils Lake; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Diane Hines of Albion, Alice Esterline of Macon, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, one son, John Michael Haskell, Sr.; one grandson, John Michael Haskell, Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Edward Hines and Thomas Esterline.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison. Memorial Contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice, Mason, Michigan.
