Douglas E. Goodwin Sr.

Douglas E. Goodwin Sr., age 65, of Cement City, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Allegiance Health in Jackson.

He was born Jan. 25, 1951, in Hillsdale, Mich., to William G. and June E. (Simmons) Goodwin. He married Cindy Ann Kelley June 7, 1980, in Cement City, and she survives. Douglas was raised on a farm in North Adams before moving to the Addison/Somerset area. He lived in the Cement City area since 1990. He graduated from North Adams High School in 1969.

Douglas was a corrections officer at Southern Michigan Prison, retiring in 2006. He then owned and operated Papa’s Trucking in Cement City for seven years. He was a coach and umpired baseball in the Hillsdale, Lenawee and Jackson county area for 47 years. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and he loved mowing his yard on his lawn tractor.

Surviving besides his wife, Cindy, are three sons, Douglas E. (Jeanna) Goodwin Jr., of Brooklyn, Cody Goodwin of Cement City, and Jordon (Ashley) Goodwin of Brooklyn; one daughter, Niki Bulloch (Mary Giles); 10 grandchildren; one brother, William G. Goodwin Jr. of Hillsdale, two sisters, Diane E. Ladd of Jonesville and Ellen Goodwin of Battle Creek; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jeremy Goodwin.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor Ned Bernstein officiating. Cremation followed. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016.
