Tom Burtwell

His legacy . . . Tom Burtwell, age 68, of Brooklyn, passed away Jan. 24, 2016, at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor. He was born June 19, 1947, in Detroit, the son of Jack Leslie and Mary (Sabon) Burtwell. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War as an explosive ordinance disposal specialist. Tom was a wounded combat veteran and left the service at the rank of sergeant. He married Gayle Connor Aug. 3, 1968, at St. Mark Church in Warren, Mich. Tom had a career in law enforcement as a decorated police officer with the Sterling Heights Police Department and retired as a lieutenant of investigation in 1994.

His family . . . Tom is survived by his loving wife of 47 years; children, Noel (Joel) Kaczmarczyk, Heather (Joseph) Kelley, Dr. Amanda (Charles) Kuula-Johnson, Thomas Burtwell; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Aubrianna, Brendan, Caila, Morgan, Jaelyn and Tabitha. His family was everything to him.

His farewell . . . Per Tom’s wishes, there are no services. In honor of Tom, memorial contributions may be shared with the family for future designation.
